Beach Towels Debunked

Looks can be deceiving - Can you identify the heaviest or the lightest towel?

When it comes to finding promotional items that stand out from the crowd, it takes some diligent digging to make sure you’ll be able to wow your clients. As you scroll through your lists, you see the usual suspects: Pens, check. Tumblers, check. T-shirts, check. Beach towels…? Huh? The most common roadblock that distributors face when presenting a product outside of their normal gamut is the question of “How can I sell it?” This is the first part in a series where we’ll take you through the ins and outs of beach towels and show how you can come out as the winner in your next product presentation.

Materials

Whenever you present a beach towel, you're going to want to appeal to the senses right off the bat. Towel fabric styles can be broken into 3 main categories: Loop Terry beach towels are the classic towel everyone knows and loves. This towel features loops on both sides where the loops are raised just a bit to provide for a soft feel, as well as absorb water for when you hop out of the shower or step out of the pool. Terry Velour takes those same loops and shears them down so there are no visible loops on the surface. This makes the towel even softer than the loop terry and provides for a more complete image when screen printing or embroidering your logo. Microfiber Velour has more of a velvety feel to it (think like a shammy material). Cotton/poly blends allow distributors to create works of art on the blank canvas that is the beach towel. (We’ll dive more into this in the next part of our series)

Sizes & Weights

Now that we’ve got fabrics down, let's switch over to weights.

Promotional Weight beach towels (8 lbs. per dozen) are perfect for distributors who need a budget friendly solution. These are ideal for quick projects with simple logos, but the best part is you won't be skimping on quality, making them an ideal candidate for any type of client. Mid-weight measures in between 10-12 lbs. per dozen. These are the go-to towels that distributors love due to the standard size, 30”x60”, and extensive color options. Throw in a large imprint area and you’ve got the perfect vehicle for your brand. Pictured from left to right are the 3 different materials: Microfiber Velour, Terry Velour, Loop Terry

Over-sized beach towels can range anywhere from 14-30 lbs. per dozen. These are the higher end type of towels and are usually reserved for executive gifts. If you’re looking to wow that CEO or treat your top sales team to a premium gift, a luxurious beach towel would be the perfect place to start. Weather you’ve sold beach towels before or are just diving into this new world of branding, be sure to take the time to touch and feel the products you are working with. Unless you have the towel right in front of you, it becomes pretty hard to explain just how soft or heavy they can get.
